MEN’S PENNANT REPORT<\/h3>\n

ROUND TWO – Pennant AT LATROBE GOLF CLUB<\/strong><\/h5>\n
Sunday 28 February 2021\u00a0<\/h6>\n

Result \u2013 LOSS 3 Matches to 4<\/strong><\/p>\n

No.1 \u2013 BRADLEY HALLAM (capt.) \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 caddy Ezy Naidoo<\/h6>\n

Latrobe GC being a very tight layout, often meant the use of an iron off the tee. My opponent and I let a number of birdie opportunities slip, however the finish produced the best golf of the day with a 4 under final 5 holes to clinch victory on the final hole.\u00a0<\/p>\n

No. 2 – SHANE FELDMAN<\/strong> \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 caddy Mal Fettes<\/strong><\/h6>\n

Shane playing at #2, made a great up and down from the front bunker for half at the 1st<\/sup>, then driving the ball center fairways, sank a nice birdie putt at the 5th<\/sup> to go 2 up.\u00a0 One under the card after 9 holes, a sensible 4 Iron on the 10th<\/sup> and easy par had him 3 up.<\/p>\n

Shane\u2019s only blemish into the pond at the\u00a012th<\/sup>, penalty\u00a0drop, towering 6 iron recovery, and then an amazing snake of a putt from just off the back of the green for birdy to half the hole on the Par 5, had onlookers cheering.<\/p>\n

A 40 metre up and down birdy at the par five 16th<\/sup> hole resulted in a 3 and 2 victory against an old rival from junior golfing days.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n

I played a terrible round of golf. Had trouble making decent contact with the club face, resulting in a lackluster performance. I will be working to improve before our next encounter.<\/p>\n

No.4 \u2013 JARROD HARRIS\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0caddy David Bedwell<\/strong><\/h6>\n

After going 1 down on the par 5 second, a par on the third was good enough to win the hole to get it all square. We made the turn at 1 and I was feeling in control of the match however many putts left short kept him in it. A birdie on the 15th took me to 2 up with 3 to play. A par on the 16th took the match to 2 up with 2 to play however a poor iron shot off the tee on the short par 4 17tg found the water. I\u2019d go on to make 6 with my opponent making 5 and taking it to the 18th. A bogey on the 18th meant we were headed to a playoff.\u00a0<\/p>\n

My opponent was up first and out his shot into the green side bunker of the Par 3 1st and i had hit mine to 20 feet but after some poor putting, the story of the day, both players walked off with bogeys. A par on the 2nd playoff hole left my opponent needing to make a 6 foot putt to continue the match which he made.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A poor drive on the next left me needing to chip out of the trees putting my opponent in the drivers seat, he hit his approach to 30 feet.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Knowing i needed to get up and down from 65 meters to keep the match going, I hit a nice 60\u00b0 to 5 feet past the flag. Unfortunately, a missed putt for par left my opponent with 3 feet for the win which he would go on and make.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A massive thanks to Dave for caddying throughout the long day in the sun!\u00a0<\/p>\n

No.5 \u2013 IAN SUSIC\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 caddy Alan Easton<\/strong><\/h6>\n

A par, birdie start gave Ian Susic<\/strong> a flying start to be 2 up after 2 against ex Yarra Yarra player Chris<\/strong> Thorne<\/strong>. A mistake by player and caddy on the 4th<\/sup> resulted in a drive into the water and loss of the hole. This was rectified on the 5th<\/sup> where par was good enough to win the hole. Pars to the turn had Ian 2 up. Par down 10 was good enough to go 3 up, but bogey\/par at the next two holes had Ian back to only 1 up. 13 and 14 were halved in pars, and a par on 15 had Ian 2 up. The 16th<\/sup> hole was halved with birdies, and another birdie from 0.5m on 17 closed out the match 3\/1. A solid ball striking effort from Ian to finish at 1 under the card, with a putter which was very cold on the two paced greens.\u00a0<\/p>\n

I hit the ball very badly for the first 9 holes, did my best to scramble and hang in there with a few up and downs. 3 down at the turn, won 10 with par to get back to 2, and then lost the next 4 to 3 birdies when I actually worked it out somewhat and struck it better.<\/p>\n

A closely fought battle that may have gone either way. Unfortunately, a couple of wayward tee shots at the end of the match proved my undoing. The result may have been different if I had hit better shots off the tee in these final holes, which is something I\u2019ll work on for the future.
