MEN PENNANT REPORT \u2013 ROUND 7<\/h5>\n
YARRA YARRA v. THE NATIONAL at ROYAL MELBOURNE (EAST COURSE)<\/h5>\n
YARRA YARRA  3 lost to THE NATIONAL  4<\/h5>\n

No.7 \u2013 SHANE FELDMAN (Caddy \u2013 Mal Fettes) \u2013 After missing the previous fixture due to injury, Shane came back into the team. After bogeys on the first four holes found himself 3 down and immediately behind the eight ball. However as the match wore on, Shane found his best golf to fight back and run out a winner by 2 holes.                                                       <\/p>\n

WIN \u2013 2 HOLES<\/strong><\/p>\n

No.4 \u2013 JARROD HARRIS (Caddy – Geoff Harris) fell behind early and was always playing catch up going down 5 & 3 .                               <\/p>\n

LOSS \u2013 5 & 3<\/strong><\/p>\n

No.3 \u2013 DANIEL KRALL played The National\u2019s club captain John D\u2019Apice and despite playing some excellent golf early, faltered in the middle rounds to lose 5 & 3         <\/p>\n

LOSS 5 & 3<\/strong><\/p>\n

No.2 \u2013 BRADLEY HALLAM (Caddy \u2013 David Standfield) had a very solid round running out an easy winner 5 & 3                                       <\/p>\n

WIN \u2013 5 & 3<\/strong><\/p>\n

No.1 \u2013 PHOENIX CAMPBELL (Caddy \u2013 Michael Jackson) played Nathan Page in the top billing match. Phoenix held sway all day on the demanding East Course layout to eventual win the 3 &2.               <\/p>\n

WIN \u2013 3 & 2   <\/strong>                                    <\/p>\n

With 5 matches decided and Yarra Yarra holding a 3 \/ 2 advantage it was down to the final two matches, that were both destined to go down to the wire.<\/p>\n

A situation that YYGC had already found itself in , on no less than 3 occasions in the previous 6 matches of the season, all resulting in heartbreaking defeat.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    <\/p>\n

No.6 \u2013 RILEY STEVENS (Caddy \u2013 David Collett) \u2013 Having fallen behind early and 2 down at the turn, Riley fought back to be square going down 17. An errant drive followed by a chip out and a great recovery to par and half the hole, saw the combatants head to the 18th<\/sup> all square. Riley\u2019s tee shot was again wayward, and unable to locate the ball, a provisional was required, which proved to be too bigger start, narrowly going down.                                                       <\/p>\n

LOSS \u2013 1 HOLE<\/strong><\/p>\n

So the match, the season, relegation or not came down to the final match to be decided for the season.<\/p>\n

No.5 \u2013 IAN SUSIC (Caddy \u2013 Ross Mathieson) \u2013 Ian and young Sam Bakes had a titanic struggle all match. The match was all square at the turn, before Sam took the lead extending it to two up with two holes to play. On 17, Ian hit a superb approach shot to a metre and canned the birdie putt to reduce the margin to one down with one hole to play. An excellent drive by Ian matched by his opponent on the long par 5 finishing hole. A lengthy wait ensued as the previous match was decided. Ian was 220 metres out and hit his second to a metre and a half of the pin, a brilliant shot, that won the hole and took the match to extra holes. The first extra hole a par 4 dogleg to the right, saw Ian pull his tee shot into the rough and tee tree left of the fairway, while his opponent hit his drive down the middle. Ian\u2019s second found the front bunker, a super result from where he was, however his opponent hit a wonderful approach shot to 70cm from the pin. Ian\u2019s only hope now was to hole the bunker shot to force the match down the 20th<\/sup>. Ian hit a fabulous bunker shot to 15 cm of the pin. His opponent sank the short putt to send the YYGC Men Pennant team out of division one.<\/p>\n

On behalf of Rob Draper & Rob Krall, I would like to thank the playing group, the caddies & the supporters for giving it their best. It is a difficult pill to swallow, given the 4 losses by the narrowest of margins in only a 7 match season.<\/p>\n
