to all our 50 year members"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The annual 50 Year Members Luncheon was held on Sunday 31 July 2022.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This event recognises and celebrates the achievement of members who have obtained 50 years of membership at the Yarra Yarra Golf Club<\/p>\n<p>This year we will also recognised members who reached 50 years of membership in 2020 and 2021 as the 50-year members lunch for these two years was cancelled due to COVID.<\/p>\n<p>During the lunch, all 50-year members were presented with a 50-year certificate of membership, a 50-year gold lapel pin and we were recognised for the achievements they made during their long membership at the Club.<\/p>\n<p>This is always an important milestone with our members and they all enjoyed a wonderful day and a lovely lunch.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #339966;\"><b style=\"color: #339966;\">Members who achieved 50 year membership <\/b><span style=\"color: #339966;\"><b>status<\/b><\/span><b style=\"color: #339966;\"> in 2020<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>MICHAEL (MIKE) JELLIS<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Joined on 28 August 1969<\/li>\n<li>Proposed by Cliff Hanman and Seconded by Jack Higgins<\/li>\n<li>Mike&#8217;s father Don was unable to Propose him as Committee members where not permitted to propose members in 1969<\/li>\n<li>Mike won the YY Mixed Trophy with his wife Robin and the RG Ball Trophy<\/li>\n<li>He has won 5 monthly medals and had 3 hole in ones<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>RODNEY (ROD) WALKER<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Joined on 28 August 1969<\/li>\n<li>Proposed by Reg Rees and Seconded by Kevin Hosking<\/li>\n<li>Rod&#8217;s father Don was unable to Propose him as he had not yet attained full 7 day membership which was a proposer requirement in 1969<\/li>\n<li>Rod won the won the YY Mixed Trophy with his sister Laraine and the prestigious Darvall Trophy\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>He has won a monthly medal<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>ROGER CURRIE (Apology for the lunch)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Joined on 25 September 1969<\/li>\n<li>Proposed by his father Norm Currie and Seconded by Rupert Wood<\/li>\n<li>Roger played regularly in his early years at the Club but has been a Social Member for many years to keep the family connection to the Club<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>NOEL HEALY<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Joined on 25 September 1969<\/li>\n<li>Proposed by Ivan Gunn and Seconded by Roly Tonkin<\/li>\n<li>Noel started his association with Yarra Yarra as a caddie and then graduated to membership<\/li>\n<li>Older members will remember Noel changing out of his caddie gear and donning a white shirt and bow tie to act as the food boy, bringing members snacks from the kitchen<\/li>\n<li>He has won a monthly medal and had a hole in one<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #339966;\"><b style=\"color: #339966;\">Members who achieved 50 year membership <\/b><b>status<\/b><b style=\"color: #339966;\"> in 2021<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>GARY AMIET<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Joined on 31 December 1970<\/li>\n<li>Proposed by Boyd Tyner and Seconded by Robin Grouse<\/li>\n<li>Both of Gary&#8217;s parents were members and his mother was Lady Captain<\/li>\n<li>Gary rarely played in his early years at the Club due to family commitments with four children.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>He later joined the Dad&#8217;s Army Group which he has enjoyed for many years<\/li>\n<li>Gary now plays on a Friday<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>DR (JOHN) JACK MEAGHER (Deceased 02\/11\/21)\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Joined on 31 December 1970<\/li>\n<li>Proposed by Jack Carroll and Seconded by Bill O&#8217;Donnell<\/li>\n<li>Jack served on the General Committee from 1977 to 1980<\/li>\n<li>He was elected as Honorary Club Secretary from 1991 to 1992<\/li>\n<li>He was elected as Club President from 1993 to 1996<\/li>\n<li>Jack passed away last year and his son David, who is the current Club Captain, accepted this posthumous honor on his father&#8217;s behalf\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>DR JOHN ONTO <strong>(Apology for the lunch)<\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Joined on 31 December 1970<\/li>\n<li>Proposed by his father-in-law Roy Crossley and Seconded by Don Clark<\/li>\n<li>John sad his quality of golf is not great but he enjoys the fellowship of the Club<\/li>\n<li>He was married to Judy in 1967 and the Club played host to his wedding reception\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>He sent a letter of appreciation to the Club President which Danny read out at the lunch.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #339966;\"><b style=\"color: #339966;\">Members who achieved 50 year membership <\/b><b>status<\/b><b style=\"color: #339966;\"> in 2022<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>JOHN TAYLOR<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Joined on 26 August 1972<\/li>\n<li>Proposed by Stan Carroll and Seconded by Kath Carroll<\/li>\n<li>John served on the General Committee from 1986 to 1987 and was elected as Honorary Club Secretary in 1988.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/li>\n<li>He was elected as Club President from 1989 to 1992.<\/li>\n<li>While in the tole of Club President he instituted the YY Mixed Trophy<\/li>\n<li>John represented the Club in negotiations over the purchase of the McGuiness Road land, which was finalised during his Presidency<\/li>\n<li>John was one of the Founding members of the Yarra Yarra Foundation ans served on the Foundation for 10 years.<\/li>\n<li>He won the C Grade Championship in 1995<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>SUSAN (SUE) BAKER<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Joined on 29 October 1972<\/li>\n<li>Proposed by her father Roy Crossley and Seconded by her sister Judy Onto<\/li>\n<li>Sue served as Lady Captain from 2013 to 2014<\/li>\n<li>She has represented the Club in Pennant<\/li>\n<li>She has won 3 monthly medals and 1 board event<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>PHILIP DUFFY<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Joined on 31 August 1972<\/li>\n<li>Proposed by Bert Mulcahy and Seconded by David Cade<\/li>\n<li>He won the A Grade Championship in 2003<\/li>\n<li>He represented the Club in\u00a0 the Colts Pennant that won Division One in 1977<\/li>\n<li>He has won 3 monthly medals\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Philip currently serves as the Club&#8217;s Honorary Solicitor\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>ROBERT (ROB) DRAPER<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Joined on 31 August 1972<\/li>\n<li>Proposed by Ivan Gunn and Seconded by John Wragg<\/li>\n<li>He won the B Grade Championship in 2011<\/li>\n<li>He represented the Club in\u00a0 the Colts Pennant\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>He won the Harry Vincent Trophy in 2014<\/li>\n<li>Rob won the YY Foundation Cup with Andree Leigh in 2020<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>PETER AVERY<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Joined on 31 August 1972<\/li>\n<li>Proposed by Jack Hazen and Seconded by David Cade<\/li>\n<li>He served on the General Committee from 1995 to 2000 and then again in 2002.<\/li>\n<li>He was elected as the Honorary Club Secretary in 2003.<\/li>\n<li>Peter was the Honorary Consultant Surveyor and Town Planner for the Club for many years<\/li>\n<li>He won the B Grade Championship in 2005<\/li>\n<li>He has won a monthly medal<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>MICHAEL (MIKE) MORRISON<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Joined on 31 August 1972<\/li>\n<li>Proposed by Bob Dempster and Seconded by Noel Bucknall<\/li>\n<li>He won the prestigious Darvall Trophy in 1977 and the RG Ball Trophy in 1982<\/li>\n<li>He has won 5 monthly medals<\/li>\n<li>Michael has moved to NSW\u00a0 but remains a member of the Club and will be back in October to catch up with all his YYGC friends<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The 50 year members that were unable to attend the lunch and presentations will have their 50 year certificates and pins posted to
