YYGC juniors play in the Victorian Junior Masters
Posted on: 4 February
After heavy overnight rain, players were greeted with overcast but fine conditions for the Victorian Junior Masters played at the Churchill-Waverley Golf and Bowls Club. An enthusiastic contingent of Yarra Yarra GC juniors had entered, joining a field of 89 boys and girls, all of whom were full of excitement and hopes of having strong performances.
For some, the Victorian Junior Masters was the culmination of a much tournament golf played over December and January. For others, it was their first experience of competitive tournament golf.
Jackson Green (16), Corey Wakeman (15), Eddie Tong (12), Anton Kovacevic (11), Harrison Crawford (13) and Victoria Sam (12) had been practicing hard, spending many hours on the practice range and putting green, preparing themselves for 36 holes of stroke play.
Day one was played in overcast conditions. The course had held up remarkably well considering it had taken nearly 35 mm of rain the day before. Day two was played in near perfect conditions.
We should be very proud of how our juniors performed and conducted themselves. Although there were a few that were a bit disappointed with the results, all came away from the tournament reporting many positive aspects.
Victoria (Tori) said “I thoroughly enjoyed my first Victorian Junior Masters tournament. Although I did not play as well as I wanted, I cherished the experience and the friendships made. It has inspired me to complete in many more future events”.
Harrison was equally as positive about the experience. “Didn’t play my best, but it was a great experience”.
Anton was already looking to the future. “Was a fun tournament and good to see some golfing mates, not the result I wanted however looking forward to the next junior Vic master! And maybe one day putting the jacket on!”

With no more junior tournaments until the next school holidays in April, the Club will turn its attention to promoting participation and development opportunities for new, novice and emerging juniors alike.
Importantly, please make an effort to introduce yourself to our junior members, their parents, friends and family. We can have an extremely positive influence on their experience at the Club.
I look forward to sharing more with you about our Junior Membership Development Program over the coming weeks.
