Women’s Friday Pennant Round 4

Yarra Yarra vs Commonwealth

Played at Cranbourne GC

Result Commonwealth win 4/3

Cranbourne Course was in great condition for our match against Commonwealth. After virtually a week of rain we were glad to have a dry day.

While the result was a 4/3 win to Commonwealth the final result could have gone either way, it was all very close coming down to the wire. Andree played well but just came up against a better player on the day and Megan RJ couldn’t take a trick all day. Anne Gibbon made her debut this week taking her opponent to the 17th. Thanh Chau and Sue Baker brought home wins and Kellie Baker and Meg Thorley halved their matches.

We now have a break until our next round on the 9th April – time to take stock, catch-up on some rest and get ready for the home run where we hope to pick-up some wins.

As always thank you to our wonderful group of players and caddies.

A few words from the caddies:

Janelle played at number 1 this week against Jeneath Wong a +3.5 handicapper. Despite the difference in handicaps Jannelle birdied and parred holes to carry the match to the 14th where she birdied beautifully only to lose the hole to an eagle! It was a great effort.

Rebecca once again got off to a steady start with par golf good enough to halve or win holes against Tomi Crewes. She was 2 up early but as usual opponents put pressure on and it was all square after 9. Bec then played 2 great shots up the 11th while Tomi found bunkers. A 12th hole up and down was described by the opposing caddy as the “ play of the day”. And a magnificent shot on the par 3 16th followed by a match winning putt and it was game over. Another display of great golf Rebecca.

After a week off Shanaiah was up against the seasoned Louise Winder. Whilst Shanaiah certainly had the length on her opponent Louise was deadly accurate all day. A few putts here and there the difference with Louise winning 2 up.

Lauren was in unbeatable form today – from tee to green!  Her approaches to the green left her with very makeable putts and her opponent shaking her head until the last hole.  A superb 7/6 win to Lauren!

Mel came back very strongly this week playing some great golf and didn’t allow her opponent, India Roberson any opportunity. Mel brought home an excellent 4/3 win.

Vanessa was up against Alex Phanuruk at number 5 who is a +2 handicapper. Vanessa took it up to Alex, however she had the game and all the answers on the day winning 4/3.

Charlotte stayed in touch with her experienced opponent Kate Kemp for the first 9 holes and was one down at the turn. In the second 9 the tables turned with Charlotte winning holes in succession and applying pressure to her opponent. Standing on the 16th tee Charlotte was 2 up and went on to seal the match with a regulation par 3 to take the match 3/2.

A great effort every one. Our next game is at Heidelberg vs Heidelberg.
