Removal of the hedges

Clubhouse Gardens

Dear members

You will notice that the callistemon hedges have been removed around the clubhouse internal gardens.

This decision was not made lightly but was deemed necessary for several reasons.

  1. OH&S: We have had too many close calls with member and staff cars almost being hit because of the height and lack of vision.
  2. Poor quality: We tried trimming them down but they became too woody due to age and deterioration.
  3. Scratches on cars: Members and staff have made complaints about their car doors getting scratched from the plants.
  4. Labor: Maintaining the hedges is taking up too much of the course staffs’ time, time that can be better utilised elsewhere on the course.

Once the callistemon hedges have been fully removed the course staff will prepare the area and source new species of plantings in line with our new Vegetation Master Plan. Our Vegetation Architect (Kruse Golf) will make planting recommendations that make this a feature area over time.

We appreciate your understanding while we work on this project and we look forward to seeing it become an established feature for this area over the coming years.

Regards

Clint Raven | Course Superintendent
