The Yarra Yarra Book Club met on October 8th to discuss City of Girls by Elizabeth Gilbert.
Elizabeth Feltscheer chose the book and wrote this report.
City of girls is a fiction novel about 19 year old Vivian Morris who is sent to live with her
Aunt Peg in New York City in 1940.
Vivian is drawn into the vibrant, unconventional world of her aunt’s crumbling Manhattan theatre The Lily Playhouse, and becomes involved with the showgirls and other colourful characters.
A personal mistake leads to a professional scandal, forcing Vivian to confront the consequences and leading her to a new understanding of herself.
The ladies gave it an average star rating of 4.
