Men’s pennant report in round 5

Posted on: 30 March

Yarra Yarra suffered another heartbreaking loss at the hands of Latrobe at Commonwealth GC, a devastating result as a victory would have secured our place in Division One for 2022.

Rod McIntosh was a late withdrawal with a hand injury, resulting in first reserve, Leo Lui, taking his place at the No.7 position and James Mason replacing Leo as the team reserve

No.7 – LEO LUI. After taking an early lead which was maintained to the turn, 2 up, the match quickly turned on it’s head with the loss of three holes in a row early on the second nine to be one down with four to play. Leo fought back to take the match into extra holes, finally losing on the 22nd hole. Caddy – Rod Macintosh

LOSS 22nd

No.6 – RILEY STEVENS – Following a tardy start, Riley fought hard to stay in the game, turning one down. A rally early on the back nine saw Riley take a 2 hole lead with four to play, only to lose the advantage when his opponent forced the match into extra holes. Once again a drama packed match unfolded with both players holding clutch putts until the 22nd hole where Riley was to prevail. Caddy – David Collett

WIN 22nd

No.5 – JARROD HARRIS – Another slow start, before fighting back and steading the ship to be square at the turn. Jarrod won the next few holes up get to 3 holes up, before completing the round 2 up. Caddy – Tom Youds

WIN   2 UP

No.4 – DANIEL KRALL – Started slowly too, finding himself 3 down at the turn. Daniel fought hard to turn it around, eventually losing 4 & 2. Caddy – Stuart Vohmann.

LOSS 4 & 2

No.3 – SHANE FELDMAN – A disappointing round by Shane, losing six holes on the trot at one stage to finally go down 6 &5. Caddy – Bernard Upjohn

LOSS 6 & 5

No.2 – BRADLEY HALLAM – our team captain, Bradley, started positively, and maintained control throughout the day, running out a comfortable winner 4 & 3.  Caddy – 11 year old Anton Kovacevic

WIN 4 & 3

No.1 – PHOENIX CAMPBELL – Unfortunately Phoenix was slowly away, and was unable to make up the leeway, going down 2&1 in the marquee match. Caddy – Michael Jackson

LOSS 2 & 1

Three losses by the narrowest of margins in the first five matches has left us in a precarious position to avoid relegation. Round 6 we play the undefeated Royal Melbourne on Sunday 11th April 2021  at home, and then we play The National in the final round at Royal Melbourne.

Looking forward to a large contingent of members to be on hand to support the lads in their final two fixtures.

Milton Hammon

Pennant Co-Ordinator.
