Junior Golfers – Tournament Update
Over recent weeks Junior members Anton Kovacevic and Amelia Harris have been involved in tournaments of significance overseas.
The R & A Junior Open – Monifieth Scotland
Amelia Harris was selected to represent Australia in the Junior Open held prior to the Open Championship in Scotland.
The Junior Open was open to under 16 golfers with teams of 2 selected to represent each country affiliated with the R and A with Amelia joined by Rupert Toomey in representing Australia.
This event was Amelia first experience of links golf on the Monifieth Links to the north of St Andrews near Dundee with the second day in particular proving challenging with strong winds. Amelia’s scores of 72, 80, 76 placed her 9th girl in the field which for a first time around a links course was an extremely good performance.
US Kids World Championship
Over the past few weeks Anton Kovacevic has been playing some of the worlds leading under age tournaments as a lead in to the US Kids Golf World Championships next month.
Anton’s most recent tournament was the Callaway Future Stars Junior Tournament in California with excellent scores of 75, 77 and 76 in the 11 to 12 year old category.
Prior to that Anton had scores of 80, 76 and 74 at the IMG Junior Championships held at the famous Torrey Pines course in San Diego.
Following 4 tournaments in a row Anton has a well earned break this week before the US Kids under 12 world championship being contested at Pinehurst in North Carolina.
