Danny McGrady’s acknowledgment and thanks to Dr Peter Campbell

Moving forward, as you know, it is customary for us to acknowledge the contribution to the Club by Board members, when their term ends. Serving the Club as a Board Director entails the devotion of lots of time and energy and the assumption of significant regulatory responsibilities and obligations, without benefit or compensation, but always for the betterment of Yarra Yarra.

Dr Peter Campbell steps down after seven years which have seen the Club stabilise, harmonise, and progress significantly. Peter was a Director when the decision was made to appoint Renaissance Golf Design – a decision which has reinvigorated Yarra Yarra. As Secretary for the past two years, Peter has been heavily involved in our Governance and Risk and Membership sub-committees and generally, as an officer of the club, been totally dedicated to achieving the best outcomes for our members.

Personally, I have always found Peter to be a voice of reason and a sound advisor.

Peter, on behalf of the Club, our staff and all our members, please accept our thanks for your service and a job very well done.

We have a small token of our appreciation to present you with.

Danny presented Peter with a thank you gift

Dr Peter Campbell’s Response

Thank you, Danny, for those kind words. Being a member of Yarra Yarra is a privilege, a fact that is sadly missed on a few of our members from time to time. To be able to serve the club for seven years has indeed been an honour. I have enjoyed the experience, particularly the interaction with my fellow Board colleagues and Sub-Committee members. I believe the club is now in a much better position, particularly regarding the Board cohesion, stability, golf course design, and condition, and we have a clear vision for the future. I hope in some way I have contributed to those improvements.

Without making this sound like a mutual appreciation, I would like to personally thank Dany McGrady for his contribution at Yarra Yarra over an extended period. Being both Captain and then President, like his father at Port Williams Golf Club in Ireland, this is a feat rarely achieved at Yarra Yarra. The time he put in for those two positions has been remarkable.

One of the other people who achieved the Captain/President double was Herbert Darvall whom our coveted Darvall Trophy is named after. Who knows, in the future we might have a Darvall/McGrady Trophy, in which the recipient gats a tankard of beer with an Irish whiskey chaser.

Thank you, Danny, it has been a pleasure to work with you and now we can both just sit back, relax, and come to the golf club to enjoy our time at this great club without the responsibility of office.
