Jazy Roberts Produces a Third Round Masterclass to lead the Australian Amateur

Posted on: 6 February

Jazy Roberts produced a Round 3 masterclass to open up a four-shot lead in the women’s championship.

Roberts caught fire on the back nine at The Western Australian Golf Club (WAGC), going 6-under across her final six holes with an eagle and four birdies in a sublime 8-under 65.

The surge lifted her to 17-under for the tournament, four shots clear of Japan’s Ai Goto heading into the final round.

Starting the day two shots behind overnight leader and Yarra Yarra Golf Club teammate Amelia Harris, Roberts capitalised as Harris endured a tough round of 2-over, slipping back to 9-under in outright fourth.

The pair were grouped together, a dynamic Roberts said helped bring out her best golf.

“I always love being able to play against Amelia,” Roberts said.

“We’ve been pretty close all week – we’re even sleeping right beside each other – and we’ve both played great the last few days.

“We’re obviously very supportive of each other, but we’re also very competitive.”

Ranked 58th on the World Amateur Golf Ranking, the rising star said she’ll stick with the same relaxed mindset in the final round, without letting complacency slip in.

“I’m normally pretty relaxed, so I’ll go in with the same attitude,” Roberts said.

“But you’ve still got to stay aggressive – it doesn’t really matter how far in front you are.

“I’m pretty happy with how my game is at the moment. It’s been a long few weeks, but I’ve played solid golf throughout, so I’m feeling really good.”
