BUNKERS AND RAKES

In recent weeks there has been an increase in rakes being placed in the incorrect position in bunkers and bunkers not being raked correctly.

Incorrect Rake Position

Rakes are incorrectly being placed on the face of bunkers as pictured above.

A ball coming to rest in this position must then be played from that position which puts the player at a disadvantage.

Correct Rake Position

The picture below shows how a rake should be placed in the bunker. After leaving the bunker you should hold the handle and gently throw the rake into the middle of the flat area and in the direction of play.

You should rake the area of the bunker you have played from and remove any foot prints you have left. After leaving the raked area you should turn the rake over and use the flat surface to smooth the face and walk in area where you have left footprints.

Many members are forgetting to rake the divot they have left and their footprints.

It is understandable that bunker care can be sometimes forgotten, after a such a long period of not having to rake bunkers.  However now that rakes are back in bunkers it is important to look after the bunkers after playing out of them, to ensure the enjoyment of everyone playing behind you.
